Britta loves Rosa
Because…
Once you try their sourdough pizzettas, hand-made pasta and mean Negronis, you’ll understand too. Bringing its neighbourhood trattoria vibes to the former Gilmore’s site, Rosa has been upping Newquay’s culinary kudos since opening in early summer 2024.
Their ever-changing, imaginative American-Italian plates, deliver dishes like Carbonara pizzettas, fried lasagne (as decadent as it sounds) and giant meatballs doused in rich tomato sauce. And if the weather’s on your side, explore the cocktail list over a quick game of mini golf. Better combos need not apply.
Heidi loves Clover Club
Because…
The independent spirit is strong here. With a heavy emphasis on sharing, the Clover Club’s tapas-style dishes and stand-out cocktail list ignite a lively buzz, especially on the weekends, making it a staple of Newquay’s in-the-know crowd.
Carve out some time on a Saturday morning and discover their bottomless brunch — waffles, small plates, endless Prosecco. Need we say more.
Chloe loves Pizza Jockeys
Because…
You haven’t lived until you’ve tasted this sourdough pizza. These lo-fi, pop-culture-loving pizza fiends (expect menu puns aplenty) have perfected the art of dough making.
Every choice is a winner, but a special shout-out goes to their Coronitas (frozen margarita topped up with a ‘rona), and their Cheezy Marmz bread, dripping with confit garlic, mozzarella, garlic honey and, of course, lashings of marmite.
Josh loves Barouche
Because…
It feels like a secret. Hidden around the corner from Newquay’s Bank Street, in Cribbar Yard, Barouche is a specialist wine, beer & coffee bar that’s slipped on to foodies’ radars this year.
Along with some cleverly sourced wines from around the world and evolving beers on tap, they also serve a shifting menu of aperitivo-style ‘Petisco’ dishes.
Regular pop-ups and tasting nights, from chocolate and wine pairings to beer tasting evenings, are well worth checking out too.
Sam loves Wave House Cafe
Because…
The friendly feel is off the charts. Welcoming everyone in, this non-profit community-focused café packs a pleasant surprise. Housed in The Wave Church, the recent renovations have transformed the building into a bright, modern and inviting space, serving delicious healthy meals, great coffee and surf-café vibes, all at a great price.
A hard recommend, especially if you have young kids in tow, as there are toys and books to keep them busy.
Alison loves Sushea
Because…
Well, is there anything better than sushi done well? Found in Newquay’s ‘cooler’ quarter on the Fistral end of Fore street, Sushea serves Australian-style sushi (with fresh flavours such as teriyaki salmon and spiced beef in uncut nori rolls), alongside favourite Asian dishes such as poke bowls, gyozas and bao buns.
Mark loves Counter Culture
Because…
Why should Spain get all the pintxos fun? Inspired by the streets of San Sebastian, where bars bustle for attention and surfaces are stacked with skewered snacks, Counter Culture is Newquay’s take on this delightful Spanish way of eating.
Putting a Cornish-twist on the Basque staples, get stuck into smoked haddock croquettas, local mackerel and toasted almonds and curated pintxos boards when you just can’t bear to choose.
