Entrance to SeaSpace

We care

We’re pulling out all the stops to make a big difference with a small impact. From powering up with renewables and slashing energy usage, to creating better working lives for our people and drawing in the local community, it’s all part of our big plan to become a B-Corp.

It’s ambitious, so wish us luck. Here’s how we’re going to do it…

No wasters here

Who needs more stuff? Cutting down on waste, we’ve reused, repurposed and upcycled as much furniture and as many fittings from the original hotel as we can, donating what we can’t to local charities like St Blazey C.I.C.

In-room recycling and dedicated recycling areas, gives our trash its second coming, while all food waste will be processed at a local anaerobic digestion facility and converted into renewable energy.

Same goes for our general waste, which will head to a state-of-the-art Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre, generating electricity for Cornish homes. Best put that kettle on….

Everyone round to ours

Staying, playing or dining, we’re shaping our spaces to welcome everyone in. From working with accessibility designers inside and out, to provide for anyone with additional needs, to upskilling our teams up with Macaton, BSL qualifications, dementia awareness and diversity & inclusivity training — at SeaSpace everyone’s on board.

This is for our people

A team that feels cared for is a force to be reckoned with. With a regular calendar of wellbeing events for our team (and local community)—from yoga sessions and breathwork to gardening and surf lessons—fair pay,  team accommodation (when it’s needed), and a great working environment, we’re making the SeaSpace working lifestyle sweeter — just as it should be.

Doing good in the neighbourhood

Did we mention we’re people, people? The ones coming to stay, the ones on our team, and the ones who make up our neighbourhood matter to us. Like, really matter. Our dream is big.

We want to make SeaSpace a real community, breathing fresh life into the Sands legacy by creating spaces where people can meet, connect, and thrive together. We’ll also be giving each team member a ‘You Day’ to give back to the community, or a charity, and another paid day for their birthday.

Not easy being green, but we're on it

Our planet is precious, which is why we’re shaking up the hotel industry, with a long list of ways to slash our energy usage. Buying renewable energy, using LED lighting and using light sensors and mains monitoring will mean we’re hot on energy and resource wastage across our gas, electricity and water.

We’ll be powering our onsite guest laundry with solar panels, and using air source heat pump technology to heat the main buildings. And by installing electric car charging stations and with a Beryl e-bike station just down the hill in Porth; we’ll enable our guests and team to play a part too.

Green spaces & local suppliers

Our outdoor areas are designed to work in harmony with nature, with a plan to rewild spaces to encourage wildlife and biodiversity through natural coastal planting. We’re sourcing locally, too, using local food and drink suppliers to fill our pantries and plates where we can.

All our cleaning products will be easy on the environment, too, with toxin-free products and an ozonated water cleaning system that self-recycles.

This isn’t a one-and-done list. Every day, we’ll be checking in – to our building management system to see if we’re being as efficient as possible, with our people to make sure we’re creating the best working environment, and with our guests to discover ways we can improve.

It’s a journey, and we’re here for it. Off and rolling.
